Empowering Digital Health: My Journey as a Software Developer in a Tech Startup in Uganda

Six months ago, I joined a tech startup in Uganda as a mobile app developer. I was excited to be part of a team that was building innovative technology to improve the lives of people in Africa.

As a mobile application developer, I embarked on a journey that not only transformed my career but also held the promise of revolutionizing healthcare in Uganda.

This blog is a snapshot of my incredible journey, sprinkled with unforgettable moments, as we added a chatbot to our company’s app, introduced biometrics to assist Community Health Workers (CHWs), and continued to develop the MobiKlinic CHP app.

The moment I walked through the office at Mobiklinic, I knew I was in for an adventure. I joined a team of young people filled with energy, drive, and a shared passion for improving healthcare accessibility in Uganda. My role? Transform our existing mobile app into a healthcare lifeline for underserved communities. It was an exhilarating challenge, and I couldn’t wait to dive in.

Integrating Biometrics into the application

My first task was the introduction of biometric technology. We integrated biometric authentication into the Mobiklinic application to assist community health workers in avoiding duplicate data entries. Mobiklinic partnered with SimprintsID to include biometrics technology in the application. Imagine the smiles on our faces when we saw how this streamlined their data management, reducing errors and boosting efficiency. Our app is now a tool for CHWs to conquer their daily tasks with ease, thanks to the power of biometrics.

The Chatbot Integration

Our next feat, and one of our most significant achievements, the introduction of ‘Moby,’ our very own chatbot, became a reality. Moby is the heart and soul of our app, designed to assist CHWs and other users in diagnosing and managing health conditions more efficiently. It was more than a chatbot; it was a healthcare superhero. Moby will offer real-time guidance and recommendations, giving our users access to accurate and timely healthcare information. Moby will bring healthcare closer to people, especially those living in remote areas.

My journey as a mobile app developer turned Digital Products Manager for a tech startup in Uganda has been nothing short of thrilling. The continuous development of the MobiKlinic CHP app is our pledge to keep innovating and making a difference.

As a female developer in the tech industry, I’m proud to be part of a team that’s shattering boundaries and bringing smiles to underserved communities. I’m looking forward to more thrilling adventures, new challenges, and the chance to impact more lives through technology. This is just the beginning of a journey filled with endless possibilities and excitement!
